There’s a lot of information around about keeping your heart healthy, all very well and good, but I care a tad more about my brain.
It stands to reason that what’s harmful to your heart also is harmful to your brain. If I’m laying into a big plate of fish and chips, all deep fried lovingly and wonderfully double salted, I’m packing a lot of fat off to my heart. But there’s also a portion that will be rocketed up through my arteries to my old gray cells.
So the saturated fats in the humungous plate of greasy chips are clogging my arteries as fast as they can manage it. They will clog and clag in an artery that leads to my brain, and I could keel over with a stroke.
In the meantime, the friendly omega-3 fatty acids (found in fish) can’t work their magic on my brain because I consumed them in a thick casing of deep-fried batter. How could they be expected to get down to their job of keeping my arteries clear?
In just a few bites I’ve destroyed all hope of neurotransmitter- alteration and there’s nothing left in my head between me and depression.
I had better stick to the grilled fish, I know that I should have about 1lb or roughly 500k of it each week. Plus a handful of nuts and a glass of soya milk a day.
If you’re anything like me and you shudder to your bootstraps just looking at soya milk, be firm with yourself, you have to take it on the chin.
Imagine it to be a cup of nasty yet necessary medicine, visualise it doing you good, close your eyes and think of England. Just get it down.
Can you spare a dime for an old dame?
