Earth Hour

Earth Day is April 22 .. but here in Australia we will starting off Earth Hour at 8.00 pm tonight.

Cities in Fiji and New Zealand will be the first to cut lights as the clocks strike 8. Two hours later, lights will go off at Australia’s most famous landmark, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and in cities and regional centres all along the East Coast.

The eyes of the world will be on the Coathanger when the lights are turned off, but no one will notice my little cottage about 500 miles further south. Gasp, off will go my computer and I don’t dare even turn on the TV. And I will be here in the dark!

Vietnam is next and then cities elsewhere across Asia, Europe and North America will follow. One of the last major cities to participate will be San Francisco — home to the soon-to-be dimmed Golden Gate Bridge.

From bridge to bridge around the world.

Can you spare a dime for an old dame?
